Soitilo Terms of Use
Version 1.0, in force from 27 October 2026.
In short
- Soitilo is an app by Nettiteeri Oy for learning the basics of piano. An adult creates the account, and the family’s children are its learners.
- The basics and Chapter 1 are free. A subscription opens the rest of the learning path and the whole song library.
- You buy the subscription from an app store. It renews automatically until you cancel it in the store.
- If the subscription ends, nothing is deleted.
- You can delete your family’s data at any time.
1. The service and who provides it
Soitilo is an app for children and adult beginners learning to play the piano. The service is the Soitilo app, its server and the soitilo.com pages, such as the teacher view and the invitation page.
The service is provided by Nettiteeri Oy (business ID 3331525-2), Viereläntie 4 A, 90630 Oulu, Finland.
These terms are an agreement between you and Nettiteeri Oy. When you buy a subscription, the app store’s terms also apply to it (section 3).
How we process personal data is explained in the privacy policy.
2. Account, family and learners
The account belongs to an adult. An adult creates the account with an email address and a password or with a Google account. The app asks for no payment details when you create the account. The family’s settings, data and purchases are in the adult area, which opens with the adult’s own code. Keep your password and code to yourself, and don’t let a child use them. Tell us if you think someone else is using your account.
Learners. An adult adds the family’s learners, usually children. An adult can be a learner too. A learner profile is not an account of its own, and no email address is stored in it. Without a subscription and with a personal subscription, a family can have up to 3 learners; with a family subscription, up to 10. As the adult, you accept these terms on behalf of your family’s learners too, and you look after how the children use the app.
The family and a second adult. The adult who created the account is the family’s owner. The owner can invite a second adult, who has an account of their own, to the family by email. Both adults have the same rights to manage the family, but only the owner can delete the whole family.
Family devices. An adult can link a family device, such as the children’s tablet, with a one-time code and without their own sign-in details. A family device can play, but it cannot buy a subscription, export or delete data, or manage the family’s adults or devices.
Teachers. An adult in the family can invite a teacher and choose the learners whose progress the teacher sees. The teacher sees them in a web browser, read-only, together with the name of the adult who sent the invitation, and does not see the family’s other learners or the adults’ other details. An adult can remove the teacher at any time, and the access ends at once. Adding a teacher is free. A teacher has an account of their own, and these terms apply to the teacher too.
3. What is free, and the subscription
Free. Without a subscription you get the basics and Chapter 1 with their songs, the library’s free songs, My melody, free play, all three ways to play, help and hints, up to 3 learners, a second adult and sharing progress with a teacher.
Subscriptions. There are two: a family subscription for all the family’s learners, up to 10, and a personal subscription for one learner. Both open the same content: the learning path from Chapter 2 on and the whole song library. A subscription is billed monthly or yearly.
The personal subscription covers the first learner added to the family who is not resting. While it is on, the app opens that learner directly: the other learners cannot play, and no new learners can be added. The other learners’ data is not deleted. A personal subscription can be switched to a family subscription. Before you confirm, the app tells you whether the store charges the price difference now or credits the time left on the personal subscription.
Buying. You buy the subscription in the app through an app store. At the moment, the store is Google Play. Only the family’s adults can buy it, in the adult area. There are no purchase prompts in the children’s views. The store shows the price, the billing period and the terms before you confirm the purchase, and the store takes the payment. The price is shown in the store and in the app in your currency, and it can differ between countries. We do not see or store your payment method.
Free trial. If you are eligible for the trial, the first 14 days of the subscription are free. The store decides whether your account is eligible, and the app shows the trial only when the store offers it. Cancel before the trial ends and nothing is charged. Otherwise the subscription continues as a paid subscription automatically after the trial. During the trial, the app shows the date of the first charge.
Renewal and cancelling. The subscription renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel it. You manage and cancel it in the store. The app’s Subscription view links to the store’s subscription page. The subscription belongs to the buyer’s store account, so only the buyer can change or cancel it. The family’s other adult can see its status. When you cancel, access continues until the end of the period you have paid for, and the app shows the date. Deleting the family or an account does not cancel the subscription (section 9).
If a payment fails. The store tries to charge again, and the content stays open meanwhile. If the store puts the subscription on hold, Chapter 2 and the whole library open again once the payment goes through. Nothing is deleted.
Refunds. The store handles refunds of payments under its own terms. You can also ask us for help: at your request we can cancel a Google Play subscription or refund its latest payment in full or for the time left. A refund ends access at once.
4. When a subscription ends
Nothing is deleted. Skills and progress stay, and they keep updating from what is played in the free content. Finished songs and own melodies stay. A library song your child has a star in stays playable, and the stars and badges stay. Paid content not yet started locks, and the path goes on from the same place when you subscribe again. So a subscription does not give lasting access to everything that was open while it was on.
The family’s learners are not deleted. If there are more than 3, new ones can be added only once the family has a family subscription again.
5. Acceptable use
Soitilo is for your family’s own, non-commercial use. A teacher may use the teacher view to teach their students. Do not
- try to get at another family’s data or get around the service’s security
- load the service on purpose, or use it other than through the Soitilo app and the soitilo.com pages
- copy, sell or distribute the app’s content (section 6)
- create an account with another person’s email address
- send invitations to people who don’t want them.
If you seriously break these terms, we can limit your access to the service or end the agreement.
6. Content and licence
We give you and your family’s learners a personal right to use Soitilo and its content under these terms. The right cannot be transferred.
The app’s pictures, sounds, texts, exercises and arrangements belong to Nettiteeri Oy or its licensors. Song credits in the app give each song’s composer, source and the basis on which it is in the app. The licences of the open-source parts and fonts in the app are under Data and account, Show licences.
We get no rights to a learner’s own melodies. My melody tunes are kept only on the device and are not sent to us.
7. Availability and changes to the service
Creating an account, signing in, moving data between the family’s devices, buying and deleting need an internet connection. Once the account exists, practice works offline too. The ways to play depend on the device: a USB keyboard needs a device that supports USB MIDI, Bluetooth MIDI is not supported, and listening to a piano needs a microphone.
We aim to keep the service available, but we cannot promise that it always works without interruption. It can be unavailable, for example during maintenance or a fault.
We keep developing Soitilo: we add content and may change features. If a change makes the subscription’s content significantly worse, we will tell you in advance.
We may require you to update the app. An app version that is too old then cannot connect to the service until it is updated.
If we close the service, we will tell you well in advance.
8. Liability
We are liable for the service under the Finnish Consumer Protection Act and other mandatory law. These terms do not limit the rights the law gives you as a consumer.
If something in the service is faulty, tell us at tuki@soitilo.com or through Contact us in the app, and we will look into it and fix it.
Soitilo supports learning, but we do not promise any particular learning result. We are not liable for loss caused by your device, your internet connection, the app store or anything else outside our control. We are not liable for indirect loss unless the law says otherwise.
9. Ending your account and deleting data
You can stop using Soitilo at any time. The family’s owner can delete the whole family in the app’s adult area under Data and account, Delete the whole family. This deletes the family, its learners and both adults’ accounts from the server at once. Any adult in the family can delete a single learner. You can also ask for deletion by email at tuki@soitilo.com. The family’s second adult and a teacher can ask for their own account to be deleted this way too. We delete the data and confirm it within one month of the request at the latest.
Deletion cannot be undone. To keep the data, export it to a file in the app first. Deleting the family does not cancel a store subscription, so cancel it in the store.
What deletion removes, and how long data can stay in backups, is explained in the privacy policy and on the account deletion page.
We can end the agreement under section 5 or 7.
10. Changes to these terms
We may change these terms, for example when the service, the law or the app stores’ rules change. We will tell you about significant changes by email to your account’s address at least 30 days before they take effect. If you do not accept a change, you can cancel your subscription and delete your account before then. The version and the date these terms took effect are shown at the top of this page.
11. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by Finnish law. If you are a consumer living in another country, you keep the mandatory consumer protection of the country where you live.
Please contact us first, and we will try to sort the matter out together. If we cannot agree, a consumer living in Finland can ask the consumer advisory service for help and take the matter to the Consumer Disputes Board (kuluttajariita.fi). You can also take the matter to the courts where you live.
