Your child’s first notes on the piano

Soitilo helps children learn piano, one small step at a time. Start on a phone or tablet, connect a USB MIDI keyboard, or use the piano you already have.

For children from about 4 years old, with an adult there to help them begin. In English or Finnish.

The public Android release comes first; iPhone and iPad follow.

Three ways to play

On the screen

Your child can begin on the keyboard on a phone or tablet. You do not need to buy a piano to try the first steps.

With a USB keyboard

Connect a MIDI keyboard with a USB cable on a device that supports USB MIDI.

On a real piano

The app listens through the microphone to an acoustic or digital piano. Sound is processed on the device, never recorded or sent anywhere.

Practice first. Then play with the music.

Each playing task begins at your child’s own pace. The accompaniment waits while they find the notes. Then they play the task with the accompaniment.

Hints appear when your child gets stuck. Short music games come between songs.

Familiar songs, and a melody of their own

Your child learns with songs such as Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star, Mary Had a Little Lamb, Are You Sleeping? and Hot Cross Buns. Some of them open with a subscription.

In My melody, they can make up a tune of their own. Free play leaves room to explore.

A clear view for you. Room to learn for your child.

The adult area shows the skills your child is learning, whether they played independently or with help, and a tip when they get stuck.

There are no practice streaks or sibling comparisons. No ads, analytics or tracking SDKs. Google Play purchases use Google’s billing library, which logs its billing calls. Purchases stay behind the adult’s own code.

Begin with the free chapters

The basics and Chapter 1, with their songs, stay free, with all three ways to play, full help and hints, and up to three learner profiles. Also free: the free library songs, My melody, free play, a second adult and sharing progress with a teacher.

A personal or family subscription opens the rest of the learning path and the whole song library.
