Frequently asked questions
What is Soitilo?
Soitilo is a piano-learning app from Nettiteeri Oy in Finland. It helps children learn from their first notes through short stages, familiar songs and music games. It also suits adult beginners.
What age is it for?
Soitilo is for children from about 4 years old, with a particular focus on ages 6–8. Each learner has their own profile and presentation style. An adult owns the family account.
Do we need a piano?
No piano is needed to try the first steps: your child can play on a phone or tablet screen. Soitilo also works with a USB MIDI keyboard on a compatible device, or with an acoustic or digital piano through the microphone.
Does it work with a MIDI keyboard?
Yes, with a USB cable on a device that supports USB MIDI. Bluetooth MIDI is not supported. Check your device and keyboard connection before choosing a cable or adapter.
Does Soitilo record our piano or send microphone sound anywhere?
No. Piano sound is processed only on the device. It is never recorded or sent anywhere.
How does a playing task work?
First your child practices at their own pace, with accompaniment that waits. Then they play the task with the accompaniment. Hints appear when they get stuck.
Can the instructions be read aloud?
Yes. Music Grouse gives instructions in a speech bubble, and the device can read them aloud. Learners can have a listening, reading or compact presentation style.
What is free?
The basics and Chapter 1, with their songs, are free forever, for up to three learner profiles. All three ways to play, full help and hints are included. Also free: the free library songs, My melody, free play, a second adult and sharing progress with a teacher.
What does a subscription include?
A personal subscription is for one learner; a family subscription supports up to ten learners. Either opens the rest of the learning path and the whole song library. Monthly and yearly plans are billed through the store, which shows current prices.
Is there a trial?
A 14-day trial is available to eligible subscribers. After the trial, the subscription becomes paid and renews automatically unless canceled. Check the store’s price, billing period, eligibility and cancellation instructions before confirming.
What happens when a subscription ends?
The basics and Chapter 1 remain free. Nothing is deleted. Finished songs and own melodies stay. A library song your child has a star in stays playable, and the stars and badges stay. Paid content not yet started locks, and the path goes on from the same place when you subscribe again.
Can my child practice offline?
Yes. Once the account has been created, practice works offline. Family devices sync when they have an internet connection.
Can another adult or a piano teacher see progress?
You can invite a second adult to the family. You can also share a learner’s progress with their piano teacher, who views it in a web browser.
Are there ads or in-app purchases?
There are no ads, analytics or tracking SDKs. Google Play purchases use Google’s billing library, which logs its billing calls. Optional subscriptions are bought in the adult area, behind the adult’s own code. The child’s views have no purchase prompts.
Does my child need an email address?
No. The account belongs to an adult. A child’s learner profile is not a separate account and has no email address.
Which languages are available?
Learners can use English or Finnish, and each has an English or Finnish songbook.
Does an app replace a piano teacher?
Soitilo offers guided practice of piano basics. A teacher can work with your child in person and help you decide what to practice next. If your child has a teacher, you can share Soitilo progress with them.
How can I export or delete family data?
You can export or delete your family’s data in the app. See the account deletion page for the current instructions, or use the support page for help.
