Songs your child can play in Soitilo

Soitilo uses songs many children already know: nursery rhymes, folk songs and Christmas songs, plus well-known classical melodies. An adult can also add English hymns and carols.

Every melody is in the public domain, so not every favorite is there, but there are plenty to play, and more are coming. Below are the songs of each collection by name.

Songs on the learning path

The learning path starts with songs such as Hot Cross Buns, Mary Had a Little Lamb, Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star and Are You Sleeping? Some of them have sheet music and playing tips on this site too.

Hymns with an adult’s choice

English hymns and carols appear only when an adult turns them on in the learner’s settings. They are off by default.

The choice stays on this device. Finnish hymns and Songs of Zion are offered to learners who use Soitilo in Finnish.

English and Finnish songs

These lists show the songs of the English-speaking repertoire. An adult can also choose the Finnish repertoire for a learner, or more song traditions, which adds songs from other countries.

Why is a song missing?

Soitilo only includes melodies whose copyright has expired: traditional tunes, old tunes by unknown composers, and tunes whose composer died more than 70 years ago. The source and rights of every melody are checked one by one.

That is why many newer children’s songs are not there. We add songs as their rights are checked. The app shows the names and melodies of songs, not lyrics.

When do songs open?

A song opens once the learning path has taught the skills it needs. The free library songs open for everyone after Chapter 1, and a subscription opens every song.
